Fall in love with these 10 Canadian travel Instagrammers

Mom & Medicine Lake. Jasper National Park is truly one of our country’s most beautiful places.

Novelist Eudora Welty once said, “a good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.” These days these moments are captured on a multitude of platforms: Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, Facebook and Instagram. Of all of these, Instagram, to me is one of the easiest-to-use, most positive in terms of engagement.

We have a wealth of fantastic photographers from Canada who traipse through both the true north strong and free and beyond, immortalizing animals, landscapes and people. Since it’s Friday and the window to your weekend of (hopefully) relaxing, chilling and perhaps some Instagram scrolling, here are my top 10 Canadian travel photographers, in no particular order.  Leigh McAdam of HikeBikeTravel may well be one of the busiest Canadian bloggers out there. She captures landscapes and vignettes from her travels throughout our super natural backyard – the country’s National and Provincial parks.

Maurice Li is a Vancouver-based photographer who travels above and around Canada by air, rail and foot to capture both wild and urban views. He’s followed royals around the country and is the leader of a photography collective called Stay and Wander.

Paul Nicklen is a National Geographic photographer and one of the founders of the iLCP (International League of Conservation Photographers) a posse that uses their images and voice to speak out on environmental issues. A champ in my books.

After spending weeks of camping on the sea ice, I finally took off in my ultralight airplane with my friend and ace pilot, Brian Knutsen. We expected to see a few Narwhals from the air but never did I expect to find a large group of male Narwhal surrounded by the most stunning pattern and shape in the sea ice. #unicornsofthesea #unicorn #narwhal #whale #nature #gratitude   A photo posted by Paul Nicklen (@paulnicklen) on

Because what is travel without food? Ayngelina Brogan of Bacon is Magic travels the world documenting her love of local food. Omnomnomnom.

Alberta isn’t just steak and potatoes. We visited Chef @roy_ohhhhhh at @anjurestaurant for his Korean small plates. It was so hard to pick a favourite but I loved the crispy tofu, pork belly, maple sesame kimchi, citrus aioli. #ExploreAlberta #capturecalgary A photo posted by Ayngelina Brogan (@ayngelina) on

Abdul Majid is an Edmonton resident who makes my hometown and province look pretty darn fine. Props to my hometown photo hero.

Feel like going for a hike but stuck at home/in the office/in a store line up? Go on a virtual trek with the gals of Hike365, a hiking posse based in Canmore, Alberta. Talk about Rocky Mountain High.

This is really great! What a beautiful shots… I am a big fan of photography myself too. Honestly speaking I don’t like to do video while I travel. I think it’s the challenge to capture that single moment that explains it all. As you mentioned in the beginning of your post: “A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.” I don’t need all those minutes of video material, one shot should be enough don’t you think?

Totally agree – I’m not a very good video taker, so photos and words are my two favourite forms of communication other than a good old face to face conversation.

Hmmm, I already know of some of these but I will definitely follow some of the others you have listed!
