Some people just have that energy. You know what I’m talking about – the magnetic kind, the kind that radiates a warm hue, the kind that fills the room with positivity. They’re the ones who are smart, but not arrogant; happy but not smug, beautiful but modest.  Catherine Roscoe Barr is one of these energetic souls.

When she’s not writing about travel, fitness or sustainable food articles for a variety of magazines, Roscoe Barr uses her neuro-science background, fitness trainer certification and voracious reading habit to help people realize their potential. Roscoe Barr’s regularly interviewed on Vancouver television on happiness, stress management and productivity and is often a guest speaker – educating everyone from Hootsuiters to health foodies. As a wellness coach, Roscoe Barr ensures her clients amp up their productivity and happiness levels while dialling down their stress levels via The Life Delicious program.

Earlier this month, Roscoe Barr launched her first set of in-person coaching classes dubbed The Life Delicious Urban Retreats at an mega-gorg Vancouver yoga studio. Her two and a half day urban retreats include lessons on stress management, mindfulness, positive psychology, self-nurturing, sleep hygiene, physical activity, and so much more! So how did you get that f*#king awesome job? Can you describe what your job is and what it is that you do?

My job is so amazing, I feel grateful to do what I do every single day! Under the umbrella of my company, The Life Delicious, I’m a writer, speaker and wellness coach.

As a writer specializing in fitness, food and travel, I get to eat and drink amazing things, meet the people who produced said amazing things, try all kinds of physical activity, and experience these things and more all over the world!

As a speaker, I get to share my knowledge, experience and passion for health, happiness and productivity at corporate offices, medical clinics, conferences, fitness centres and more!

As a wellness coach, I work with clients one-on-one for my private program (in person or worldwide via Skype) or as a group at my urban wellness retreats in Vancouver (net one is Nov 6, 7 and 8), where we dig deep to reveal the authentic core of each person and create a flexible and personalized framework for stress management, exercise and nutrition.

My goal is for everyone, no matter how they’ve engaged with The Life Delicious (through my written words, talks or programs), to leave our interaction feeling empowered, not overwhelmed, and with an action plan to put their new knowledge and understanding into practice!

Where I am in my career right now is the culmination of what felt like an endless parade of dead ends in my 20s – after completing a pre-med degree in neuroscience to pursue a career in fitness, to then attend and drop out of both teacher’s college and massage school, to intern as a writer at design magazines in both Sydney, Australia and Vancouver, to finally combine my love of writing, teaching, moving, eating and drinking into The Life Delicious!

Did you have to give anything up to get here?

I had to give up seeing a change in direction as quitting – it’s just re-routing.

I had to give up the stories I told myself about the unlikely result of success in going after my big scary dreams.

I had to give up ignoring the voice inside me that said MORE was possible.

Who or what has been your mentor/inspiration along the way?

Failure has been one of my greatest mentors. Learning, re-strategizing and evolving after setbacks is an empowering way to grow – and I happen to have a lot of case studies to draw from ☺

My biggest inspirations have been my husband and my parents, who’ve been superhuman in their unwavering support, and I’m very fortunate to have the most incredible social circle of whole-hearted people who engage me, build me up, and allow me to be me.

In three words or less, what’s the best part of your job?

Catalyzing human transformation.

In three words or less, what’s the worst part of your job?

Depends what time of day! Morning: water followed by coffee followed by water. Afternoon: ginger tea. Evening: sparkling water (weekdays) or beer/whiskey/wine (weekends).
